PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: An updated course outlining the current concepts in cochlear implantation in children and infants. Focus will include updates in diagnostics and pre-operative evaluation, available technology as well as new and expanding indications including single sided deafness. Practical pearls with a focus on the improvement of surgical and clinical outcomes will occur throughout the lecture.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Implement the latest advances in both diagnostic and pre-operative evaluation of infant and child with sensorineural hearing loss into clinical practice.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Recognize areas for expanded criteria in cochlear implantationOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Examine the challenges and barriers to achieving early implantation.BACKGROUND STATEMENT: Need for practical update on the clinical evolution of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in children and infants with sensorineural hearing loss. Need for a report on continued expansion of criteria and indications for cochlear implantation in the pediatric population.
