Demystifying Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction (Aka Paradoxical Vocal Fold Motion Aka Vocal Cord Dysfunction) (2022 AMW)

Inducible laryngeal obstruction (aka paradoxical vocal fold motion, aka vocal cord dysfunction) can be terrifying for patients and their families. It is frequently misdiagnosed as exercise induced asthma. Patients can spend months, or even years, bouncing in and out of emergency rooms prior to diagnosis. They may even be subject to invasive procedures such as intubation and tracheotomy. The objective of this course is to give the general
otolaryngologist the tools to make this diagnosis in a cost effective manner. Participants will also be taught techniques to break the episodes in an ambulatory setting or emergency department.
