Department of Surgery Cultural Humility

Department of Surgery Cultural Humility

The modern physician s oath promises to not allow considerations of age, disease or disability, creed, ethnic origin, gender, nationality, political affiliation, race, sexual orientation, social standing or any other factor to interfere with the patient relationship. At the same time, it is known that disparities in health and access to care exist among population groups. The Department of Surgery’s monthly cultural humility module examines values and beliefs, presenting an inclusive approach to health care practice in a manner that recognizes the context and complexities of provider-patient interactions and preserves the dignity of individuals, families and communities.
