DIABETES IN OLDER ADULTS/DEEP VENOUS THROMBOSIS

The goal of this program is to improve treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM) in older adults, and management of anticoagulation therapy for patients with deep venous thrombosis (DVT). After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Explain how older age affects the adaptive response to hypoglycemia.
2. Optimize glycemic controls in older patients.
3. Cite evidence assessing risk for morality in older patients with DM.
4. List risk factors for recurrence of DVT.
5. Identify patients who may require long-term anticoagulation therapy after a DVT.
