Diphyllobothriasis is a parasitic infection caused by broad or fish tapeworms. Recent attention to diphyllobothriasis has surged with increasing case reports in nonendemic areas and improved pathogen understanding through molecular techniques. Upon completing this activity, clinicians can expect improved proficiency in recognizing the varied presentations of diphyllobothriasis, from mild abdominal symptoms to the sudden, unexpected expulsion of the mature worm in feces. Utilizing an understanding of parasite epidemiology and lifecycle, the clinician will refine their skills in conducting detailed patient histories encompassing travel, occupational risks, and diet and supporting patients in understanding their diagnosis. Participants will also gain insights into employing appropriate diagnostic techniques, addressing the practice gap, and increasing accuracy in identifying and treating this parasitic infection. Collaborating with infectious disease specialists, microbiologists, and other healthcare professionals is emphasized to enhance interdisciplinary care for patients with this parasitic infection. The exchange of expertise and perspectives from different disciplines fosters a comprehensive approach to diagnosis, treatment, and patient management, ultimately contributing to improved clinical outcomes. By engaging with an interprofessional team, clinicians can leverage diverse skills and competence to ensure a holistic and patient-centered approach to care.
