Disaster Response Collaborative (DRC)

Disaster Response Collaborative (DRC)

The goal of the Disaster Response Collaborative (DRC) is to improve pediatric disaster response capability and capacity in children s hospitals through focused change strategies in at least one of four priority focus areas (topics): evacuation, reunification, surge, and triage/infection control/decontamination. Education about the knowledge, skills, and practices for each of these focus areas is integrated throughout collaborative sessions to assist the DRC teams to achieve desired outcomes. The target audience (children’s hospital teams that register for the DRC) will complete an environmental scan (the Pediatric Preparedness Network [PPN] children’s hospital preparedness assessment), review their facility’s disaster plans/protocols, and identify planning gaps. Each team will consider the environmental scan results and identified planning gaps, select one of the four focus areas to work on, and participate in a virtual tabletop exercise (facilitated by the Drills/Exercises Disaster Management Domain) or a facility tabletop exercise. Teams will be provided with a template report and use this report to describe exercise findings and follow-up actions. Based on the selection of one focus area to work on and exercise follow up actions, each registered DRC team will design a Quality Improvement (QI) project or confirm improvement objective(s). Teams will then track changes in performance measures through two facility drills (baseline and follow-up).
