Discover the Link Between Gut Microbiota, Insulin Resistance, and Alzheimer’s

Neuropathological features of Alzheimer’s disease; amyloid pathology, neurofibrillary tangles of tau protein, and neuronal loss, have been linked to the similar underlying pathology of insulin resistance seen with dysbiosis of the microbiome, ‘leaky gut’ and insulin resistance in T2D. Insulin resistance in the brain results in decreased energetics disrupted processes resulting in the production of reactive oxygen species, inflammation, interference with neurotransmission, and ineffective function of microglial ‘cleanup’. All of these connections will be explored in this presentation.
