In order for clinicians in the behavioral health setting to deliver the best care possible to patients of all backgrounds, they first must uncover the root causes of racism, bias, and stigma impacting quality of patient care. By understanding the prevalence of stigma that accompanies race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual identity in the clinical setting, providers can begin to make the necessary changes in practice to better serve their community and implement equitable care. Every patient is different, and clinicians must be acutely aware of how each person presents, and ultimately, how they are diagnosed.
In this CMEOutfitter’s Snack series, expert faculty will engage in a candid discussion around the impact of racism, bias, and stigma in the behavioral health setting. By further analyzing these barriers to equitable patient care, faculty and learners will develop strategies to integrate respectful and empathetic care to all patients.
