ECHO - Substance Use Disorders in Emergency Departments - Winter 2025

This ECHO aims to increase Substance Use Disorder (SUD) identification and evidence based treatment by Oregon Emergency Department staff. Barriers to excellent SUD care in EDs have included: stigma against persons with SUD, inexperience with medication for opioid use disorder and related low rate of buprenorphine initiation by Oregon s EDs, lack of staffing to provide multidisciplinary SUD care in ED settings, and scarce availability of addiction medicine consultant expertise to advise ED providers.
