The Down Syndrome Medical Interest Group-USA (DSMIG-USA ) Speaker Series consists of webinars and enduring materials designed to share knowledge and experience related to the care of children and adults with Down syndrome, and clinical research related to Down syndrome. As a result of participation in this educational activity, members of the healthcare team will be able to: Detail the background on prevalence of overweight and obesity in pediatrics and adults with Down syndrome highlighting the importance of this topic Describe research findings regarding dietary and lifestyle modification approaches in treatment of overweight and obesity for individuals with IDD (intellectual or developmental disabilities) Discuss specific nutritional considerations for individuals with Down syndrome and opportunities for medical nutrition therapy (MNT) interventions
