Entering the AI Age: How Artificial Intelligence Is Transforming Otolaryngology (AMW2023)

Entering the AI Age: How Artificial Intelligence Is Transforming Otolaryngology (AMW2023)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence processes by computer systems. Machine learning (ML) is a subset of AI that involves the development of algorithms and statistical models that enable computer systems to improve their performance with experience automatically without being explicitly programmed. Machine learning enables computers to learn from data and use that learning to make predictions or take actions without being explicitly programmed to perform the task. In this panel, we would provide an overview of the current and potential use of AI technology in the field of Otolaryngology with a purpose to educate practitioners and researchers on the benefits and limitations of using AI in otolaryngology, such as improved diagnostic accuracy and increased efficiency, as well as potential ethical concerns. Attendees would be informed about the current state of AI in otolaryngology and to discuss the potential future developments and implications for the field.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Explain the current use of AI in otolaryngology across the subspecialties as well as its associated opportunities and limitations.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Evaluate the future role of AI in improving patient outcomes, experience and medical education.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Analyze the potential ethical concerns associated with the use of AI in otolaryngology.BACKGROUND STATEMENT: Thank you to the Program committee for their consideration. We feel this topic is novel, presented by a diverse group of panelists, and discusses new and emerging implications for all Otolaryngologists and ENT practitioners at all levels.
