PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This one-hour course will describe surgical tympanoplasty methods. The emphasis will be on practical tips that can be used by the attendees to improve their surgical outcomes. A variety of approaches including microscopic, endoscopic, and in-office techniques will be discussed. In addition, cutting-edge research describing novel materials will be described. We anticipate that both new and experienced practitioners will find the panel presentation and discussion to be valuable.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Utilize the ideal tympanoplasty approach for a given size and location of perforation.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Understand the use of cartilage in tympanoplasty.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Evaluate when a microscopic vs endoscopic approach is most appropriate for tympanoplasty.BACKGROUND STATEMENT: Need for improved familiarity with tympanoplasty techniques and outcomes.
