This activity reviews the role of the interprofessional team involved in the perioperative care of patients with hypertension (HTN). These providers include anesthesiologists, nurses, surgeons, primary care providers such as internists and general practitioners, and physician assistants. This article reviews new criteria that describe the various stages of HTN. It also discusses the preoperative assessment of patients with HTN and the management of patients with HTN in the perioperative period.
