Chronic otorrhea, arising from either a middle ear or external ear source, is a common problem for many patients and a common reason for patients to seek an otolaryngologist. This session will review common and unusual diseases of the external and middle ear. We will present a comprehensive and cost-effective work up algorithm for patients with chronic otorrhea. We will review currently-approved FDA medications that may be used for chronic otorrhea. Unconventional treatments, including topical powders, will also be discussed. Literature supporting non-FDA approved therapies will be presented alongside clinical examples.
