Genitourinary tuberculosis (GT) is a significant form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis, affecting the kidneys, bladder, ureters, and genitalia in both men and women. Accounting for approximately 20% of all extrapulmonary tuberculosis cases, GT typically results from hematogenous spread from a primary pulmonary focus. The disease can lead to severe complications, including obstructive uropathy, hydronephrosis, renal failure, and infertility, due to granulomatous inflammation and scarring of the affected organs. Diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion, supported by appropriate diagnostic tools, while treatment involves standard antituberculous therapy and, in advanced cases, surgical intervention. This course provides healthcare professionals with comprehensive knowledge of diagnosing, treating, and managing GT. Participants gain an understanding of the disease’s pathophysiology, learn to identify its clinical manifestations and apply evidence-based guidelines for treatment. The course emphasizes the importance of accurate diagnostic techniques, including imaging and laboratory tests, and the role of multidisciplinary care in addressing complications. Collaborating with an interprofessional team enhances patient outcomes by ensuring early detection, personalized treatment plans, and coordinated care, ultimately improving the prognosis for those affected by this complex condition.
