Glycol ethers are a class of organic solvents commonly found in industrial and household products. These chemicals are solvents for various applications, including resins, lacquers, varnishes, gums, perfumes, dyes, and inks. Glycol ethers are components in paint, pastes, household cleaning products, liquid soaps, cosmetic products, and hydraulic fluids. These substances may be categorized into 2 groups depending on the manufacturing process: ethylene oxide-derived (E-series) or propylene oxide-derived (P-series).Glycol ether toxicity can occur via multiple routes and injure various organs. Clinicians must understand these compounds’ clinical toxicology, given their widespread use and risk for significant toxicity. This activity for healthcare professionals is designed to improve learners’ proficiency in evaluating and managing glycol ether toxicology. Participants gain valuable insights into the condition’s epidemiology, pathophysiology, toxicokinetics, clinical presentation, and management of glycol ethers, equipping them to collaborate effectively within an interprofessional team caring for patients with glycol ether poisoning.
