The goal of this program is to improve management of patients administered total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA), improve man-agement of patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) undergoing noncardiac surgery, and provide an update about current certification requirements of the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). After hearing and assimilating the program, the clinicians will be better able to:
1. Recognize clinical scenarios in which the use of TIVA would be appropriate.
2. Integrate environmental and economic factors of anesthetic agents into the clinical decision-making process.
3. Select intraoperative monitoring modalities for patients with LVADs undergoing noncardiac surgery.
4. Initiate resuscitatory efforts for patients with LVADs in cardiac arrest.
5. Fulfill the requirements of the Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology 2.0 program.
