Head and Neck Surgical Oncology Fellow Training Around the World (AMW2023)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Global Otolaryngology is one of the key issues in AAOHNSF which focus on the ways to minimize the gap in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery training and raise the standard of care through education, sharing and cooperation among various countries. There is an increasing incidence in head and neck cancer in the whole world. The burden of head and neck surgery workforce have been heavy, especially in the middle and low income countries (MLIC) where the mortality to incidence ratio in head and neck cancer patients are particularly high. The reasons behind this are the lack of head and neck surgery workforce and few training programs existed in MLIC.The way to bridge the gap in head and neck cancer care between the high and MLIC can be education, especially the basic and advanced fellowship training program in head and neck oncology and surgery. In this proposal, we would like to review the current training programs in various regions, try to reach some consensus, build up the standard of care and probably establish a potential platform in head and neck oncology and surgery training. The following is the proposal organization:title Head and Neck surgical oncology fellow training around the world Moderator: Eugene N Myers, USAPanelists:Jeffery Myers, USAFernando Dias, BrazilSheng-Po Hao, TaiwanOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Demonstrate the increased global burden of head and neck cancer and analyze the lack of workforce in the low and middle income countries.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Establish the ways to bridging the gap and to raise the standard of care in head and neck cancer patients.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Review the current program in various regions and try to reach consensus to establish a platform in head and neck surgery training.BACKGROUND STATEMENT: There is low workforce density and only few head and neck surgery training program in MLIC.
