The goal of this program is to improve patient outcomes through the use of strategies that address health disparity in orthopedic surgery. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to: 1. List the health outcomes associated with low health literacy (HL). 2. Use the universal precautions approach to improve HL in patients. 3. Differentiate vulnerable vs underserved populations in health care. 4. Explain the impact of higher-quality health insurance coverage on health care access in orthopedics. 5. Compare outcomes following total joint arthroplasty in Black vs White individuals.
