While we continue to make strides for women in otolaryngology, recent literature has shown that women in this field are continuing to face discrimination and sexual harassment at all levels, from medical students to attendings. Frustrating situations that women experience on a daily basis can range from smaller incidents, such as patients or consulting teams addressing a man medical student rather than the chief resident or attending, who is a woman, all the way to inappropriate sexual comments and blatant sexual harassment. Additionally, it’s important to note that minority women face further discrimination. The improvements in the work environment that have been achieved so far have been due not only to strong women, but to the men in the field who have recognized injustices and work hard to correct these. Men and women will need to work together to decrease the inequalities that are still facing women in our field today. This panel aims to provide participants with the ability to recognize mistreatment of women and give them ammunition to address these inequalities in the moment.
