HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE 27TH ANNUAL ADVANCES IN DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF SLEEP APNEA AND SNORING

NOTE: This activity is available only as part of a paid subscription series; it is not available for purchase as a single, stand-alone activity.

The goal of this program is to improve the use of the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), assessment for surgery referral of patients with sleep apnea, and selection of appropriate hypopharyngeal surgery techniques for patients with OSA. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Recognize the different factors that affect determination of AHI in patients with suspected OSA.
2. Identify biomarkers that may predict comorbid conditions in patients with OSA.
3. Implement guidelines from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine when evaluating adults with OSA who may require referral for surgical consultation.
4. Compare different surgical techniques for treatment of OSA.
5. Optimize the selection of hypopharyngeal surgery technique based on OSA severity and body mass index.
