The goal of this program is to improve the use of new drugs that are available for treatment of epilepsy, prevention of sudden unexpected death of epilepsy patients (SUDEP), and management of epilepsy with cannabidiol (CBD) and medical marijuana as adjunct therapy. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Compare the risks and benefits of various new drugs for managing epilepsy.
2. Select appropriate anticonvulsant agents that are indicated for patients with epilepsy.
3. Identify patients at high risk for SUDEP.
4. Recognize risk and predisposing factors that contribute to SUDEP.
5. Prescribe appropriate dosing regimens of medical marijuana and CBD in patients with epilepsy.
