How to Support Breastfeeding for Community Health Workers: Imperatives

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are uniquely positioned to provide breastfeeding support to pregnant and lactating people in various settings. This presentation provides basic breastfeeding knowledge, national & state breastfeeding statistics with information on best practices, as laid out by the Baby-Friendly USA 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and other medical organizations. CHWs will be equipped to educate and support their clients and know when breastfeeding challenges require referral to a clinically skilled lactation supporter.
