The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Pediatric Primary Care (PPC) Quality Network, a pediatric primary care focused quality improvement (QI) network, seeks to implement interventions to improve the care of patients receiving suicide screening at well visits. The QI effort will provide physicians with education about evidence-based best practice, strategies for implementation, and tools to bring about sustainable change, while also assessing the implementation strategies associated with the greatest success. Providing multi-disciplinary teams with quality improvement education and tools specific to management of children with mental health concerns will increase compliance with the evidence-based research and ensure the appropriate follow up and next steps in any potential treatment planning are identified and executed. Global Aim: By implementing the AAP Blueprint for Youth Suicide Prevention, we aim to reduce deaths by suicide in adolescents who are under our care. This will be accomplished through our specific aims, which include: (1) Increase in the rate of validated suicide screening at adolescent preventive care visits, (2) Increase in risk assessments for patients who have positive suicide screens Increase in safety planning and lethal means counselling for patients who have positive suicide screens, (3) Increase in assessment of firearm presence in the home at adolescent preventive care visits and (4) Increase in safe storage counseling for patients with firearms in the home
