Engagement and adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) are essential for people living with HIV (PWH) to achieve and sustain viral suppression; however, many PWH encounter substantial barriers and challenges to consistent care. In this monograph, renowned HIV expert Dr. Lisa Hightow-Weidman, distinguished McKenzie Professor at Florida State University and founding director of the Institute on Digital Health and Innovation, shares a clinical commentary on effective strategies for engaging PWH and leveraging technology to support ART adherence. The monograph also reviews key findings from a recent quality improvement (QI) initiative aimed at enhancing ART adherence, highlighting common barriers and offering practical, patient-centered strategies to improve engagement that can be readily applied in clinical practice.
