Infant Safe Sleep

Infant Safe Sleep

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome/Sudden Unexplained Infant Death is the leading killer of infants ages 1 month to 1 year. Parents are more likely to engage in infant safe sleep practices following patient education and correct infant safe sleep modeling in the hospital. In 2016, the AAP provided updated guidance on infant safe sleep. Preliminary surveys with NM hospitals demonstrate clinical staff are often not aware of the new guidelines, not educating families, and not always modeling correct infant safe sleep in the hospital. This training is expected to increase knowledge, self-efficacy, and intent to model correct infant safe sleep behaviors.
