The goal of this program is to improve identification and treatment of human parechovirus infection in neonates and infants, enterovirus and hepatitis C virus infections in children, and improve the diagnosis and workup of back pain in children. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Differentiate between enterovirus and parechovirus infection in neonates and infants.
2. Apply appropriate diagnostic tools to confirm diagnosis of parechovirus in neonates and infants.
3. Discriminate enterovirus from poliovirus.
4. Identify risk factors associated with mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis C virus.
5. Determine whether a diagnostic workup is indicated in a child presenting with back pain.
