This is a bundle of four programs from the 2022 KCU Homecoming. These programs, their descriptions and objectives are listed below. Common GI Disease in Outpatient Medicine This discussion will cover the most common disease states encountered in the gastroenterology (GI) ambulatory setting: Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), Gallstones, Celiac Disease, Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Hemorrhoids, Diverticulitis. We will discuss a high-level overview of each respective disease state and outline the evidence-based approach of each for treatment. Learning objectives are to master the diagnosis and treatment of the following disorders: 1. GERD 2. Nausea and vomiting 3. Peptic Ulcer Disease 4. Abdominal pain 5. Bloating 6. Gallstone Disease 7. IBS-C and IBS-D Diabetes Trends & Challenges Diabetes Tends & Challenges This session will consist of didactic information and case vignettes. The learners should expect to be engaged and glean pearls to enhance their patient care. In the event the learner is retired, they will broaden their knowledge of the subject and potentially mentor others. Learning Objectives: Discuss the advantages to other organ systems of newer diabetic medications. Identify TLC (Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes) and possible impediments in a given social milieu. Develop strategies to enhance patient and family compliance within SDOH (Social Determinants of Health) and treatment recommendations. GYN Bumps, Rashes, & Discharge: Evidence-Based Practice of Vulvovaginitis in Pediatric & Adolescent Patients This lecture will explore the common and not-so-common causes of vulvovaginitis in kids and teens, including a review of current recommendations for prevention and treatment options. Learning Objectives: Improve knowledge of anatomy and normal appearance of prepubertal vs pubertal vulva. Describe vulvovaginitis appearance and list differential diagnoses related to appearance. Discuss current treatment recommendations for vulvovaginitis. New Race-Free Approach for Diagnosing Kidney Disease This presentation is an overview of the new race-free approach for diagnosing kidney disease, its impact on patient care, the prevalent disparities in CKD, and current data regarding overarching CKD care in Missouri. Learning Objectives: Understand and Operationalize the NKF-ASN Task Force recommended approach to Kidney Function Estimation.
