The goal of this program is to improve management of iron deficiency anemia in pregnancy and management of genitourinary conditions by optimizing the vaginal microbiome. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Summarize the relationship between iron deficiency anemia and risk for pregnancy and postpartum complications.
2. Analyze results of blood tests to determine the likely cause of anemia.
3. Counsel individuals on optimizing iron levels prior to and during pregnancy to prevent iron deficiency anemia.
4. Identify factors that can affect the composition of the vaginal microbiome.
5. Develop strategies for optimizing the vaginal microbiome in bacterial vaginosis and recurrent urinary tract infections.
