Knee arthroplasty is the reconstruction of the knee joint. It is more commonly referred to as a total knee replacement and is a very reliable procedure with predictable results. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is an excellent treatment option for individuals with symptomatic osteoarthritis in at least 2 of the 3 compartments of the knee who have failed conservative treatment. This activity describes the indications, contraindications and complications of total knee arthroplasty and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in the management of patients with knee arthritis.
