Kuru disease is an infectious, acquired, non-immunogenic, fatal neurodegenerative prion disease. It progresses rapidly with cerebellar and extrapyramidal signs and symptoms, with death occurring within one to two years of onset of symptoms. The end of cannibalism has put an end to this disease. This activity describes the evaluation and management of the kuru disease and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in improving care for patients with this condition.
