Infertility is increasingly prevalent, affecting an estimated 15% of couples. A comprehensive workup of infertility is critical to diagnose the infertile couple. Laboratory and radiographic evaluations include pituitary, ovarian, tubal, and uterine testing and semen analysis. Upon diagnosis, appropriate treatment options can be presented and discussed with patients. This dialogue allows patients to make informed treatment decisions regarding their diagnosis and what interventions best suit their individual situation. Assisted reproductive technology has helped millions of couples conceive. This activity reviews the laboratory evaluation of infertile couples and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in assessing and treating patients with infertility. This course reviews the basic laboratory workup for laboratory personnel and clinicians and focuses on the etiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, and diagnostic tests used in infertility evaluations.
