PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Lingual tonsil hypertrophy is a common contributor to obstructive sleep apnea. Expanding the scope of surgical treatment to address LTH can improve surgical outcomes. The goal of this session will focus on non-robotic methods of lingual tonsillectomy including diagnostic evaluation, surgical techniques, post operative care and complications. Diagnostic issues will include office exam, drug induced sleep endoscopy, and imaging studies. Adult, pediatric, and pediatric special needs (Down Syndrome) surgical techniques include methods to manage the supraglottis and avoiding major complications will be covered. Algorithms for post operative observation and pain control will be discussed.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Describe an endoscopic method for difficult airways of lingual tonsil exposureOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Understand risks and complications and multimodality pain managementOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Describe diagnostic methods and limitationsBACKGROUND STATEMENT: Lingual tonsil hypertrophy is a common cause of failure of surgical treatment in the pediatric population and is a common contributor to multilevel airway obstruction in adults. Endoscopic approaches offer alternative techniques to TORS and upper airway stimulation
