Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is the narrowing of the spinal canal in the lower back, specifically in the lumbar region. This condition is a significant cause of disability in older individuals and the most important spinal surgery indication among patients older than 65 years. Despite the high global prevalence of LSS, a universally accepted definition and generally accepted radiologic diagnostic criteria for this condition currently do not exist. The constrictions occur at different vertebral sections by different mechanisms and compress different spinal cord sections. Thus, LSS can present variably and be easily confused with other clinical entities. Understanding this condition’s pathophysiology and evidence-based treatments can help healthcare professionals provide the best care for patients with LSS.This activity for healthcare professionals is designed to enhance learners’ competence in evaluating and managing LSS. This activity also equips learners to collaborate effectively with an interprofessional team caring for patients with this condition.
