MALToma, or mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma, is characterized by the neoplastic proliferation of B cells in the marginal zone of lymphoid tissue, giving rise to marginal zone B-cell lymphoma. MALToma can manifest in various extranodal sites, including the stomach, gastrointestinal tract, thyroid, salivary gland, lung, and skin. Unlike nodal lymphomas, MALTomas pose diagnostic challenges due to their diverse organ involvement and nonspecific symptoms. Understanding the distinct clinical presentations between men and women is crucial; gastric MALTomas are more common in men, while women tend to develop thyroid and soft tissue involvement. This activity reviews the evaluation and treatment of MALToma, highlighting the crucial role of an interprofessional healthcare team in managing MALToma. This activity emphasizes that, given the diagnostic complexities, an interprofessional approach involving oncologists, gastroenterologists, pharmacists, and nurses is paramount to navigate the diagnostic maze by utilizing optimal biopsy techniques such as jumbo and snare biopsies or ultrasound-guided endoscopic procedures. Such a comprehensive interprofessional approach optimizes patient outcomes throughout the evaluation and treatment of MALToma.
