For some individuals, major depression can result in severe impairments that interfere with or limit one s ability to carry out major life activities. Depression can affect people of all ages, races, ethnicities, and genders. OBJECTIVES 1. List 2-3 key factors contributing to the development of depression, including biological, psychological, and environmental influences. 2. Identify and evaluate evidence-based approaches for managing depression, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, medication, mindfulness techniques, lifestyle modifications, and other emerging treatments. 3. Discuss the economic impact of depression on the US healthcare system, the global economy, and its influence on social welfare.
