In this CME Outfitters Briefcase activity, we will examine a patient case interaction within an emergency department (ED) setting to explore critical concepts in migraine management. Despite advancements, unmet needs persist for patients with migraine, particularly among women, marginalized communities, and those who present to emergency care settings. Addressing these disparities requires prioritizing accurate diagnosis and the implementation of appropriate pharmacotherapy while also considering social determinants of health and access to care. Given the recent position statement from the American Headache Society endorsing calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor antagonists (CGRP-RAs) for first-line prevention of migraine, it is crucial for emergency medicine practitioners to ensure all patients have access to the latest, evidence-based treatments. In this activity, expert faculty will guide you through the evaluation of a patient in the ED, followed by discussions on treatment options, referral processes, accurate diagnosis, and subsequent visits with a neurologist. We will address the educational needs of emergency medicine, non-migraine specialist practitioners and discuss common challenges faced by the multidisciplinary care team to determine the best treatment options for patients.
