Managing Salivary Stones: The State of Art (2022 AMW)

Managing Salivary Stones: The State of Art (2022 AMW)

In our daily practice, nearly all otolaryngologists (either general or specialized) face cases of parotid and submandibular stones. This symposium provides the current state of art management of sialolithiasis.
The main purpose is to emphasize on the importance of salivary gland preservation being the main perspective of the surgeon when dealing with such cases. Sialadenectomy (although still widely performed as the sole surgical option) might not be the primary intervention sought. This session is intended to highlight the following:
1) Interpretation of salivary imaging (CT and MR Sialography).
2) Current minimally invasive techniques addressing submandibular and parotid stones (Interventional Sialendoscopy, Standard Combined Approach, Robot Assisted Sialolithotomy and Sialendoscopy (RASS), Microscopic Intraoral Sialolithotomy and Sialendoscopic/mini-preauricular microscopic approach for parotid).
3) Which technique to select?
4) Choice between local and general anaesthesia.
5) Utility of stents.
6) Ultrasound localization in parotid cases.
7) How to avoid lingual and facial nerve injuries in combined approaches.
8) Managing complications and challenging cases.
Three international experts will discuss their experiences on how to select the best approach for each case together with the most recent techniques they perform.
