PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Every year otolaryngologists are faced with new challenges regarding reimbursement. As otolaryngologists, our primary focus is on delivering quality care for our patients. However it is essential that we receive adequate compensation for our services so that we can maintain our practices. With rising inflation and looming threats of Medicare payment costs, it is important that providers receive appropriate reimbursement for the care that we provide. It can be challenging to stay current with the various issues that arise pertaining to physician payment. Panelists will offer practical information on several topics related to reimbursement that have come to the forefront in recent years including contracting with insurance payers, reducing denials, and advocacy as a means to ensure fair compensation. Emphasis will be placed on providing strategies for successful negotiating with insurers by highlighting common benefits and pitfalls. In addition, tips will be offered on how to reduce denials and utilize advocacy to address compensation issues. This proposed Board of Governor s panel discussion will incorporate the audience response system to gauge current practice tendencies and engage attendees; individuals with national expertise will serve as panelists.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: To identify strategies that can be utilized during contracting to ensure appropriate provider reimbursement for patient care services.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: To understand how advocacy on both a national and local level can be used to impact provider compensation.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: To learn practical tips to reduce insurance denials and maximize reimbursement while providing high quality patient care.BACKGROUND STATEMENT: There is a lack of educational resources for many topics related to practice management.
