The goal of this program is to improve the management of postpartum depression (PPD) and infant/child mental health from an attachment perspective. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Identify the pathophysiologic mechanisms that contribute to PPD.
2. Recognize genetic, biologic, and psychosocial risk factors for PPD.
3. Assess for common developmental milestones during an infant’s first year of life.
4. Utilize appropriate psychotherapeutic interventions that promote a healthy relationship between caregiver and child.
5. Differentiate among secure and insecure attachment styles between caregiver and child.
