The goal of this program is to improve firearm safety for patients at risk for suicide or violence. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be able to: 1. Appreciate the effect of access to firearms on the risk for suicide and homicide. 2. Counsel patients and families on means safety and responsible firearm ownership. 3. Develop strategies for initiating conversations about firearm risks with patients and families. 4. Identify situations in which a patient may be a danger to themselves or the public. 5. Collaborate with patients and families about strategies to ensure secure storage of firearms.
