Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is a surgical procedure for most non-melanoma skin cancers. Non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC) are the most prevalent cancers in the general population. During MMS, the skin cancer is excised and pathologically analyzed for clearance on the same day. Once clear margins are achieved, Mohs surgeons often repair the defect created. One method of repairing defects includes intermediate and complex linear repairs. Linear repairs are the most common repair type used in dermatological surgery. This activity will explore the process of performing intermediate and complex repairs, including tools, techniques, and considerations. Moreover, differences in categorization will be detailed. Targeted toward the continuous learning or recertification of Mohs surgeons, fellows, and dermatology residents, this activity extends its relevance to a broader audience. Nurses, medical assistants, advanced practice providers, and medical coders are acknowledged for their pivotal roles in ensuring the successful execution and documentation of the MMS procedure. The collaborative role of the interprofessional healthcare team will be emphasized.Clinicians engaging in this activity gain valuable insights into this surgical technique renowned for its precision in removing cutaneous cancers. Participants will enhance their knowledge of MMS, its historical development, and the latest advancements in closure techniques. This review enables healthcare professionals to provide optimal care for patients with non-melanoma skin cancers, ensuring effective tumor removal and facilitating aesthetically pleasing reconstructions.
