This module will follow a child sexual abuse investigation involving a 12-year-old girl named Teagan. During her forensic interview, Teagan revealed information that included many details to be corroborated by investigators. With permission, video clips of Teagan’s forensic interview will be shared in this module to help you practice identifying corroborative evidence from the interview. This module will also introduce you to the Corroborative Evidence Guide. The guide will help you focus on the identification of corroborative evidence while observing child forensic interviews. You are encouraged to implement this practice in your own investigations as well. Before doing so, the use of the Corroborative Evidence Guide should be approved by all disciplines of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). MDT prosecutors should help the team determine whether the tool should be included as part of the investigation — where it could potentially be shared through discovery — or used solely at the children’s advocacy center (CAC) to promote focused observation during child forensic interviews.
