With 26 million new sexually transmitted infections (STIs) occurring each year in the U.S., CDC released Sexually Transmitted Infections Treatment Guidelines, 2021 in July to replace the 2015 guidance. This project will address the urgent need for professional education and training to create a health care workforce knowledgeable about this new guidance. The National STD Curriculum 1st Edition, based on the 2015 guidance, will be thoroughly reviewed and updated to align with the new guidelines. The updated content will be released as 2nd Edition with new CE. The updated curriculum will fulfill two main outcomes:
1) Increase health professionals’ knowledge of the complex issues surrounding STDs and STIs including the populations affected, CDC’s screening recommendations, serology, medical monitoring, care and treatment; and
2) Increase health professionals’ competence to conduct risk assessments, screen, identify, diagnose, counsel, stage, monitor and make appropriate referrals for those at risk for or with STDs and STIs.
