The goals of this program are to improve neuroprotection in glaucoma and neuroprotection in glaucoma and dementia, and reduce the risk for long-term opioid use among patients under going ophthalmic surgery. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to: 1. Identify targets for neuroprotection in glaucoma. 2. Recognize neuroprotective strategies to reduce the risk for dementia and glaucoma. 3. Analyze the aspiration risk in patients by evaluating the level of gastric content. 4. Appreciate the intraoperative and postoperative risk of complications in chronic opioid users. 5. Optimize the use of non-opioid alternatives for managing pain during cataract surgery.
