Dry eye disease (DED) is a common condition associated with significant quality-of-life and economic burdens. The DED pathogenic pathway is triggered by evaporation and the loss of tear film stability. Pharmacotherapy options for managing DED are expanding with the introduction of a new topical agent targeting evaporation and a novel cyclosporine formulation. Combining didactic material and case-based discussions presented by an expert faculty, this educational activity reviews DED prevalence, risk factors, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment. The desired results of this activity are to cement ophthalmologists knowledge of the role of evaporation in the pathogenesis of DED and help them obtain practical strategies for screening, diagnosis, and effective treatment that can improve patient outcomes.
