Botkin and colleagues (JAMA Pediatr., 2016) performed a randomized clinical trial to determine the most effective modes of prenatal education regarding newborn screening (NBS) and use of dried blood spots (DBS). The study was performed in obstetrics clinics at 3 medical centers, with women of average-risk pregnancy in their third trimester, both English and Spanish-speaking. The 901 subjects were randomized into 3 groups: usual care, NBS movie and brochure, NBS and DBS movie and brochure.
