The goals of this program are to provide evidence-based recommendations for nutrition in patients with gastroenterology (GI) disease and improve the management of sedation in patients undergoing GI endoscopy. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to: 1. Select appropriate delivery methods for nutritional support. 2. Compare the advantages and disadvantages of enteral and parenteral nutrition. 3. Assess the risks of sedation for GI endoscopy in patients who are American Society of Anesthesiologists class 3 or higher. 4. Evaluate the protocols and patient criteria for GI endoscopy in ambulatory surgery centers. 5. Implement current guidelines for the management of anesthesia-based sedation in high-risk patients.
