Bipolar disorder, a medical illness with substantial morbidity and mortality, is characterized by episodic recurrent mania or hypomania and major depression. The illness is frequently associated with other coexisting conditions, most commonly anxiety disorders and substance-use disorders. Treatment guidelines for bipolar disorder, particularly with coexisting conditions have been re-evaluated and updated with publication of the new DSM-5. This activity will address the most current treatments as outlined in the DSM-5 for children and adolescents.
