Weight loss surgery is an efficacious treatment for patients with obesity; however, patients undergoing these procedures should have a thorough preoperative evaluation to ensure the best outcomes via proper patient selection. This activity reviews the pre-operative assessment and preparation for bariatric surgery and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in improving care for patients who undergo obesity surgery. Bariatric surgery is a highly effective treatment for obesity that has shown not only to assist with weight loss but to improve metabolic comorbidities in this patient population. This activity reviews the indications and contraindications of bariatric surgery for patients with obesity. This activity evaluates the role of the an interprofessional team in the evaluation of comorbidities associated with obesity and their optimization before surgery.
